There has been a situation of deadlock between the forces of India and China in many places in eastern Ladakh for the last eight weeks. Tensions escalated after 20 Indian soldiers were killed in violent clashes in the Galwan Valley last month. In the last five days, the Chinese Army has withdrawn troops from the three deadlocked points in accordance with the agreement with the Indian Army. The two sides have held several rounds of diplomatic and military talks in the last few weeks to reduce tensions in the region.
The Indian side was led by the Joint Secretary (East Asia) of the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese side was led by the Director General of the Border and Maritime Department in the Foreign Ministry of China in the talks conducted through video conferencing. The ministry said, "They reviewed the situation in the India-China border areas, including reviewing the progress of the withdrawal of troops on the LAC in the western region."
He said that both sides agreed that the consensus between the senior commanders needed to be implemented seriously.
