Iconic Ganga Jamuna Talkies to be demolished

 

                                            

Ganga is said to have 1000 seats,while Jamuna had 850 seats

Its the end of the road of the famous Ganga Jamuna Talkies. The iconic twin threatre based at Tardeo will start to get demolished. Shut for more than 18 years, the building has been on the dilapidated building list in BMC from 2008.

The demolition of the building started in December 2019 but was discontinued twice due to the lack of labours. It was restarted in March was put to a halt once again due to the lockdown.

Assistant Commissioner of D-Ward Prashant confirmed that the dilapidated was declared as dangerous last year. He said "We reissued the notice in July as the structure is in extremely bad condition. We have told the owners to demolish it within a month and they said they would be responsible in case of a mishap."

The owner of the Threates, Gul Acchra said that the building was supposed to be demolished in 2008 and a multiplex was supposed to replace it. The government control rules wanted it to be a different than what Acchra had expected and decided not to go on with the proposed project.

Ganga Jamuna has been a famous landmark which has seen red carpets of many famous names in Bollywood Industry. Some of them include Ganga ki Saugandh, Kaalia, Don, Mr Natwarlal, Hero.
