On Sunday In Worli, The Director of Electronic Retail Chain,Kohinoor Electronics, was crushed to death under an elevator.
The deceased has been identified as Vishal Mewani(46) who had gone to a building called Buena Vista in Worli to meet a Doctor as he was having some pain in his teeth.
The police said that the elevator was installed less than a decade ago with a wooden door in this 97 year old 2 storey building. "The Deceased pressed the button to go to the second floor and wrenched the elevator door open assuming that it was on the ground floor. The door did not and Mewani had to use a lot of force" said Senior Inspector Sukhlal Varpe.
He added that "Upon Stepping Inside, Mewani realised he was standing on a floor that did not belong to the elevator car. The elevator was instead on the second floor. Mewani was trapped as the door shut behind him and did not open."
The watchmen was drinking water at the back and did not realize the cries of help from Mewani. He rushed as soon as possible and tried his best to open the door but was not successful.
Mewani was crushed when the elevator descended to the ground floor. The residents tried to rush him to Breach Candy where he died soon after admission.
