SUNDAY SPECIAL : KALA PANI(1958)

Kala Pani(1958) is Hindi-language thriller film, produced by Dev Anand for Navketan Films and directed by Raj Khosla. The movie is a remake of the 1955 Bengali film Sabar Upaarey.

The film stars Dev Anand, Madhubala, Nalini Jaywant, Bir Sakuja and Agha. The film's music is by Sachin Dev(S.D.) Burman, and the lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Brief Synopsis:

A young man- Karan(Dev Anand), learning about his father's wrongful implication in a fifteen-year-old murder, vows to bring the true criminals to justice and release his innocent father from 'kala paani'(cellular Jail).

Madhubala is portraying the character of A journalist(Asha) and Nalini Jaywant is one of the witnesses(Kishori).

In the meantime love happens between Karan and Asha.

Kala Pani was the eight highest-grossing film of 1958, with a verdict of hit. It grossed ₹1.2 crore, including a net of ₹0.6 crore. Adjusted for inflation, its gross was equivalent to ₹143.4 crore in 2016. Best of the Year estimated the film's gross in today's value to be ₹220.8 crore.
