Tamil Nadu Govt Reverses Decision to allow Theatres to function at 100% occupancy

 

The Tamil Nadu Government on Friday took a complete U-Turn and revered their decision that was taken on January 4th,2021 to allow 100% occupancy in Theatres and Multiplexes. Yesterday at night they announced that the Theatres and Multiplexes will continue to run at their original 50% occupancy,but there are allowed to held extra shows.

The decision to allow 100% occupancy was announced to January 4 after a personal meeting of Chief Minister E.K. Palaniswami with popular actor Vijay who had asked for this, to allow fans enjoy his upcoming film Master. Another major south film which is supposed to be released in that time was Actor Silambarasan's Eeswaran. The films are scheduled to be released during the festival of Pongal.

A Government Order was issued on Friday which said there has been a letter from the Union Home Ministry to the Chief Secretary had asked the state to stick to the Union Government's recommendation and reverse the decision.

The G.O officially said "Keeping in mind the centres recent recommendation and that a case is pending regarding this issue in Madras High Court, single screen theatres and multiplexes inside malls will be allowed to function with 50% seating capacity. Based on the orders by the Madras High Court,theaters can screen extra shows."

General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitiors's Association,R Paneerselvam said that revenues would continue to go down if theatres operate at 50% occupancy. He said "The permission to screen extra shows has come as a breather. This will help cover losses to an extend and will infuse confidence among families to walk in to watch films."
