Mumbai Colleges to Reopen Soon? Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant meets Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari

With the allowance of General Public into the Mumbai Locals and Cinemas and Theatres operating at 100% occupancy, the big question which now remains in the mind of Mumbaikars is, When are the Colleges and Varsities going to reopen?

Following the drop in the surge of COVID-19 in Mumbai and Maharashtra, the Reopening of colleges and Varsities has been a major doubt. The schools have started to operate for classes 5 to 8. The schools and colleges had already been opened for Classes 9 to Class 12, so the reopening of Colleges for undergraduate degree courses and post graduate courses is must according to some people.

Yesterday Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant met Mumbai Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and said that offline lectures in Colleges and Varsities will start soon. He is now reported to have a meeting with Vice Chancellors of universities on Monday(1st February,2021) to discuss about this matter in detail.

On Friday, Samant had a meeting will all vice chancellors in which they reviewed annual audit and filled up vacant posts. It was in that meeting that some vice chancellors demanded the reopening of offline lectures in Colleges and universities without any further delay. Governor Koshiyari is said to have voiced the same opinion.

Following the meeting with Governor Koshiyari, Samant said "I have convened a meeting with all vice chancellors on Monday. It is in the backdrop of the demand they made (to restart colleges and universities)with the Governor. The Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) will be given the report of the meeting tomorrow (Monday) itself. One thing is certain that is now time to reopen colleges and we are taking the steps in regard."

Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for students, teachers and the non teaching staff at institutions will be given only after a formal announcement of reopening.
