Yesterday in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind removed Kiran Bedi and relieved her duties as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has now been given the additional charge of Puducherry.
Press Secretary of President Ram Nath Kovind, Ajay Kumar Singh in a statement said "The President has directed that Dr. Kiran Bedi shall cease to hold the office of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and has appointed Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, governor of Telangana, to discharge the functions of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry,in addition to her own duties, with effect from the date she assumes the charge of her office, until regular arrangements for the office of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry are made."
Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy was the most pleased person after hearing about this development. He would signify her removal as the 'victory of Puducherry People'.
He said "Due to pressure from us, the Government of India has removed Dr Kiran Bedi. This is a great victory for the people of Puducherry. She hampered the growth in here by her attitude of blocking welfare schemes."
Her removal comes on the same day when Congress Government lost majority in the Union Territory as MLA A John Kumar declared his resignation from the party.
