Dead Bodies found floating in River Ganga in Bihar

In a bizarre incident, several dead and decomped bodies of people who have succumbed to COVID-19, were found floating in the river Ganga in the Buxar district of Bihar on Monday.

Officials of the Buxar district soon rushed to the spot to see the uncanny sight upon hearing the news. District Magistrate, Aman Sameer confirmed that around 48 bodies had been found and all arrangements for their respectful disposal had been made.

According to district adminstration, the bodies are said to be coming from the UP districts of Varanasi and Ghazipur. It is said that people had abandoned the bodies at the banks of the river, in the fear of COVID-19 infections.

As per other senior officals, the cremation cost is considered to be one of the factors that forced the poor people to abandon the bodies in the river. The cremation charges which were Rs 5000-6000 in normal times, have risen to Rs 16,000-20,000.
