Lockdown in Maharashtra likely to extended beyond May 15, decision to be taken soon: Rajesh Tope

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has indicated that the COVID-19 Lockdown in the state is likely to get extended beyond May 15. The Government had imposed a lockdown in Mid April till May 1, which was further extended to May 15.

Maharashtra become the first state to cross the from 50 lakh cases mark yesterday when 48,401 new cases took the total tally to 51,01,737. The state has shown a slight dip in the past few days with daily cases falling from 68,000 to 50,000 per day. The number is still a huge one.

  • According to Fress Press Journal, Tope said "If the strict restrictions then the situation may get out of hand once again. The government is geared up to tackle the third wave and is in the midst of ramping up the bed capacity, availability of Remdesivir and other medical facilities and also to achieve self sufficiency in oxygen through Mission Oxygen. The government is also increasing the pace of vaccination."

A decision on the extension of lockdown is likely to be taken soon.
