In a fast running everyday world where people have often been seen only worrying about themselves, there are some who are even willing to sacrifice themselves if it helps someone. One such incident has now been reported from Surat.

On May 19, Kamini Patel, a 46-year-old resident of Surat dealt with high blood pressure due to which she was unable to get up. In the hospital a CT Scan later informed that she had suffered brain haemorrhage. After few weeks of treatment on June 5, she was declared brain dead.

Her husband and sons then decided to donate her organs to help those in need. After failing to find a heart donor in Gujarat, the search was extended to other states. Upon searching, her heart was then transported to the HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai where the receiver was another 46-year-old woman.

Her lungs were donated to the KIMS hospital in Hyderabad to a 31-year-old woman. One of her kidney was transplanted to a patient at the Sterling Hospital in Ahmedabad while the other kidney and liver were transplanted to patients at IKDRC in Ahmedabad.

Her eyes were donated to the eye bank Lokdrashti in Surat.

"My wife is dead but she would give a new lease of life to seven people. Her organs would bring smiles to the faces of those patients who are in urgent need of them" said Bharat Patel, husband of Kamini Patel.

We at the Su-Niti News salute such unsung heroes for their act of humanity in such disastrous times.
