Free Vaccination to 18+ Citizens from June 21: PM Narendra Modi in his address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation at 5 pm today. His address comes a day after the country reported 1,00,636 new cases and 2,427 deaths, the lowest in around 61 days.

In this address, he announced two important points. Within two weeks from today i.e 21st June, The Centre Government will provide free vaccines to all citizens above age 18 years at all government hospitals and facilities.

Those who wish to get vaccinated in private hospitals will only have to pay Rs 150/- for vaccination. The Government will take a close look at it.

The second important point he announced was the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana till Diwali this year. According to this scheme, a fixed amount of ration is provided to the poor every month. These scheme will now continue till the month of November.

Other Key Highlights of his address-

  • He pointed out the current situation of COVID-19 as the biggest pandemic the world has seen in the last 100 years.
  • He informed that the vaccination coverage before 2014 (before BJP's rule) was 60 per cent. In the last 7 years, that vaccination coverage has now been increased upto 90 per cent.
  • Speaking for plans to protect children in the supposed third wave, he announced that two vaccines are in trial. These vaccines will be given as Nasal drops and not syringes. The research regarding this is still on.
  • He also warned several people to avoid spreading of rumours regarding vaccination and to stop fooling his naive brothers and sisters against this. One single dose is equivalent to a single life.
