Serum Institute of India to produce Sputnik Vaccine from September

 

On Tuesday, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced that the Serum Institute of India (SII) will start the production of Sputnik vaccine in September at the company's facilities.

  • "The first batch of Sputnik vaccine is expected to be produced at the SII's facilities in September" said the RDIF in a statement.

The parties involved, have intended to produce around 300 million doses of the vaccine in India per year.

"As part of the technical transfer process, SII has already recieved cell and vector samples from the Gamaleya Center. With their import approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), the cultivation process has begun" further read the statement by RDIF.

Sputnik V was registered in India in April 2021 under emergency usage and vaccination against Coronavirus with the Russian Vaccine started on May 14. It was the third vaccine cleared for vaccination after Covaxin and Covishield.
