On Monday, the Supreme Court cancelled the bail plea granted to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence and directed him to surrender within a week.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana set aside the Allahabad High Court which granted bail to Ashish Mishra. The apex court remanded the matter back to the Allahabad High Court to hear the issue afresh.
Ashish Mishra was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on February 10. He was arrested on October 9, 2021 after a 11 hour interrogation and was named prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
- On October 3, eight people including four protesting farmers died after a convoy of three SUVs including one belonging to Ajay Mishra Teni ran over them.
The SIT had labelled this as a "pre-planned conspiracy".
