India's most wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim |
On Monday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at several locations in Mumbai against associates of India's most wanted fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
The raids by the agency included locations related to hawala operators.
The agency also detained one gangster, Salim Quershi aka Salim Fruit, an associate of detained gangster Chhota Shakeel, from his residence during the raid. Some important documents were seized.
The NIA raids were underway on premises of Ibrahim's aides in western suburbs of Mumbai including Borivali, Bandra and Santacruz.
"Several hawala operators and drug peddlers were associated with Ibrahim and the NIA had registered (a case) in this regard in February. Raids began today," a statement from the agency was cited by ANI.
Earlier in February, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted raids at various locations and properties of Ibrahim's aides including the residence of his sister Haseena Parkar.
