EC announces schedule for Presidential Polls

On Thursday, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule of the election to the office of the President of India.

  • The Presidential election will be held on July 18 while the votes will be counted on July 21. The counting of votes will be done in New Delhi. The last day for nomination is June 29.

A total of 4,809 electors are set to vote in the Presidential elections. No political parties can issue a whip to its members.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution, an election for the next President must be held before the completion of incumbent's term. The term of current President Ram Nath Kovind will end on July 24.

The previous Presidential poll took on July 17, 2017 with the winner being announced on July 20, 2017.
