A tragic incident occurred in Maharashtra's Buldhana district where a private bus caught fire, resulting in the death of 25 passengers. Out of the 25 victims, 24 were charred beyond recognition, making DNA analysis for identification a time-consuming process. Therefore, the families were convinced to agree to a mass cremation instead. On Sunday, the bodies were cremated at the Vaikunth Dham Hindu Smashan Bhoomi in Buldhana, with relatives and Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan present to pay their respects.
The bus accident took place on the Nagpur-Mumbai 'Samruddhi Expressway' when the bus hit a divider around 1:30 am on Saturday. The passengers were unable to escape the fire, resulting in their tragic deaths. The deceased included 11 males and 14 females, with their hometowns being Wardha, Pune, Nagpur, Yavatmal, and Washim.
The family members of the deceased have arrived in Buldhana, as reported by the local administration. Fortunately, eight individuals, including the driver and the driver's assistant, survived the accident. The bus driver has been booked for negligent driving, with initial findings suggesting that he may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the loss of control.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered an investigation into the accident and announced financial assistance of Rs five lakh for each deceased person's family. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for preventive measures to avoid such tragic accidents in the future.
