Ballon d'Or 2020 cancelled 'due to lack of fair conditions'

France Football on Monday announced that there will be no Ballon d'Or ceremony in 2020 due to exceptional circumstances made my global Pandemic COVID-19. 

The award ceremony was due to be held in December as usual where the best men and women players around the world over the previous 12 months performance are awarded the Ballon d'Or and Ballon d'Or Femine awards.

It has been far from normal year not just for football or other sports but the entire world due to the spread of COVID-19. Due to this, the sports activity was suspended from March to June nearly 4 months. The European Championship which was supposed to be held in June 2020 had to be postponed to June 2021. 

In addition to the Ballon d'Or and Ballon d'Or Femine, the Kopa and the Machine trophy awarded to Kylian Mbappe(PSG Striker) and Alisson Becker(Liverpool Goalkeeper) respectively are also on the ice now.

This news means Lionel Messi and Megan Rapinoe will hold their showpiece till December 2021.
