As India entered 'Unlock 2' from today with more relaxations in lockdown curbs, the country today reported 18,653 new cases in past 24 horus, taking the tally to 5,85,493. The death toll rose to 17,400 today after 507 new fatalities. It was the eighth day in a row that over 15,000 cases have been reported daily in the country.
According to health ministry's figures. the number of active cases stands at 2,20,114, while 3,47,978 people have recovered. The recovery rate has improved to 59.43% while the gap between recovered and active patients has widened to 1.27 lakh.
The state's capital, Mumbai, the biggest contributor in the state and country's coronavirus tally reported 893 new cases today taking the city's tally to 77658. With 36 new deaths reported today, Mumbai's total deaths stand at 4556. Active cases in Mumbai are at 28924 and 44170 patients have recovered.
Meanwhile Mira Bhayander enters a 10 day lockdown from today due to surge in coronavirus cases.The metropolitan satellite township of Mira Bhayandar continued to witness a spike in COVID-19 cases when 161 more people tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, even as three more persons succumbed to the infection. The death toll in COVID-19 cases in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has now moved to 145.
Though there has been a continuous spike in the number of COVID-19 cases since the past three weeks, the MBMC has also witnessed a large number of people who have been cured of the infection and discharged. Till Tuesday, a cumulative 2364 people had been cured of the infection and discharged from various hospitals and Covid care centres, including a large group of 153 patients on Tuesday itself.Active Cases Stand at 817 in this township.
