| Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos lifting the La Liga Title |
A brace from Karim Benezema helped Real Madrid beat Villarreal 2-1, to clinch their 34th La Liga title and first since 2016-17.
Real came into the match knowing that a victory will guarantee the title with a 4 point lead and only 3 available then. Los Blancos have been absolutely brilliant since the restart winning all 10 of their La Liga games. Before the lockdown, Real Madrid got a vital win against FC Barcelona in the El Clasico in March which changed the momentum in their Favour as they went one point ahead of them. After a brief 3 months of absence, the football Returned and Real keeped the fire going.
FC Barcelona knew that even if they win, their destiny is not in their hands as Real would have clinched the title with a win. To make matters worse for Barca, they fell a goal behind in the first half which summed up their performance in the season. They did pull back a goal from their Superstar Lionel Messi in the second half and they even had a man advantage when Osasuna went down to 10 men but a 94th minute winner from Torres ended Barca dreams of winning a third 3 title. So what went wrong for Barcelona? Their Inconsistency? Too much realible on Messi? Manager's Tactics? Barcelona will now host Napoli in the second leg of round of 16 of Champions League. With the scores level at 1-1, Messi said that fans will start to lose patience if Barcelona lose again in the way they did in the last two seasons, twice losing from 3 goals up in the first leg to Roma and Liverpool.
As for Real Madrid, they still have their eyes set for the biggest price, The UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and they will travel to Manchester to play Manchester City being 2-1 down on aggregate. Los Blancos would be hoping for a positive result in Manchester and would like to add a 14th Champions League Crown.
