| Sonu Punjaban deserved to be imprisoned for her actions |
A Delhi Court on Wednesday announced their verdict against Sonu Punjaban also known as Geeta Arora(35) accusing her of prostituting a 12 year old girl and sentencing her imprisoment for 24 years.
The Court recorded that she "has no right to live in civilised society" and "crossed all limits to be called a woman and deserves severe punishment provided under the law".
According to court documents, Punjaban was facing a trial for trafficking of a minor girl. The child was intially kidnapped by co-accused Sandeep Bhedwal(41), who was also convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail. He has to pay RS 65,000 as a fine and Punjaban has to pay RS 64,000.
The Court said that the girl was sexually exploited for 3-4 years at the hands of several offenders, and if Sandeep had not kidnapped her,' perhaps the ordeal would have not happened'.
Punjaban then bought the girl and confined her, Gave her drugs to weaken her and sold her for prostitution. After keeping her for several months, the girl was then sold to one of Punjaban associate, Lala from Lucknow.
While sentencing Punjaban,the additional sessions Judge Pritam Singh observed she "not only purchased a victim for prostitution but she also brutalised her to make her surrender to her demands. She forcibly administered drugs to the victim so that she could not resist a customer... The Modesty of a woman is next to her soul. How can a woman outrage and brutalise the Modesty of another woman who is a minor in such a horrific way? The shameful deeds of Geeta Arora alias Sonu Punjaban deprives her of any leninceny from the courts..".
