A 22-year-old salesman was fatally stabbed aboard a Churchgate-Nallasopara Fast Local train (Train No. 90663) on the night of 23 June 2026. Mayank Lohar, a resident of Virar working in Andheri West, succumbed to critical abdominal injuries sustained during an altercation inside the moving first-class coach. The incident occurred between Andheri and Borivali stations following a dispute with another passenger over closing the coach door during heavy rainfall. Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case and initiated a criminal investigation.
Both the victim and the accused boarded the train at Andheri station and were traveling in the same first-class coach when the argument escalated. The accused allegedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen while the train was in motion. At Borivali station on Platform No. 06, the accused deboarded before the train came to a complete halt and fled the scene. The identity of the accused remains under investigation as of the latest reports.
Western Railway responded swiftly to the emergency. GRP personnel, RPF staff, and the medical team rushed the victim to the emergency medical room at the earliest opportunity. Despite immediate medical intervention, Lohar could not survive the injuries. CCTV footage from the coach and evidence from the scene were secured and handed over to investigating authorities. Western Railway has emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
The incident has triggered widespread concern about security measures on local trains. Passenger reactions on social media reflect anxiety about the lack of visible security presence during peak and off-peak hours. The accused remains at large as investigations continue. Railway authorities have appealed for public information that may assist in apprehending the suspect.
