A 22-year-old salesman was fatally stabbed aboard a Churchgate-Nallasopara Fast Local train (Train No. 90663) on the night of 23 June 2026. Mayank Lohar, a resident of Virar working in Andheri West, succumbed to critical abdominal injuries sustained during an altercation inside the moving first-class coach. The incident occurred between Andheri and Borivali stations following a dispute with another passenger over closing the coach door during heavy rainfall. Roshan Suvarna, a 26-year-old cargo worker at Mumbai airport and resident of Mira-Bhayandar, has been arrested in connection with the stabbing. Government Railway Police (GRP) launched an investigation immediately after the incident.
Both Lohar and Suvarna boarded the train at Andheri station and were traveling in the same first-class coach when the argument escalated. The accused allegedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen while the train was in motion. At Borivali station on Platform No. 06 at approximately 11:04 PM, the accused deboarded before the train came to a complete halt and fled the scene. Police intensified their search and examined CCTV footage from multiple locations across the railway network and surrounding areas to trace Suvarna.
Western Railway responded swiftly to the emergency. GRP and RPF personnel reached the coach shortly after and found Lohar critically injured. The victim was initially rushed to the Emergency Medical Room at Borivali station and subsequently shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali for advanced medical care. Despite immediate medical intervention, Lohar could not survive the injuries. Following the CCTV-based investigation, police tracked Suvarna and arrested him from Kurla. Western Railway secured CCTV footage and evidence from the scene, which have been handed over to investigating authorities.
The arrest marked a significant development in the case within hours of the incident. Police said Suvarna was apprehended after tracking him through multiple CCTV footages across the city. The investigation confirmed Lohar's identity as the victim and corroborated the sequence of events leading to his death. Senior Western Railway officers monitored the situation through the night and emphasized the railway's commitment to passenger safety and full cooperation with law enforcement. The case has renewed public discourse on security measures and police presence in local trains during late evening hours.
