Pakistan is not outstripping its propaganda. Pakistan has conferred its highest civilian honor 'Nishan-e-Pakistan' on its Independence Day(14 August) to former Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. On behalf of Geelani, Hurriyat leaders took this honor in Ivan-e-Sadar.
Separatist leader Gilani is known for his anti-India statements in Kashmir. This is the reason that Pakistan has conferred this honor to Gilani. Pakistan has celebrated its Independence Day as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day'. Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmed proposed to confer the honor on Gilani. It was passed by the House by voice vote. Gilani has also been accused of terror funding.

What is Hurriyat Conference?
The Hurriyat Conference is the platform of all small and big separatist organizations operating in Kashmir. Actually, Farooq Abdullah's National Conference and Congress contested elections in Jammu and Kashmir in 1987. The National Conference won 40 and the Congress 26 seats. Abdullah formed the government.
In this election, the Muslim United Front of the opposing parties got only 4 seats. After this, the foundation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference was laid on 13 July 1993 in the Valley to protest against the alliance of Congress and National Conference. Its task was to increase the separatist movement in the valley.
Created a new faction in 2004.
Gilani split from the Hurriyat in 2003 due to differences. He had formed the new faction All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) or Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. The second faction, All Parties Hurriyat Conference, is headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The Gilani faction is considered a radical and the Mirwaiz faction is moderate. However, Geelani has resigned from the Hurriyat Conference (G).
