| Lukaku and Young, the former United duo might face their old club if United and Inter win their Semi Final Matchups |
The Mini Tournament of Europa League kicked of yesterday as Manchester United and Inter Milan won their one legged ties against FC Københaven and Bayer Leverkusen respectively to reach the Semi Finals of the Europa League.
Manchester United faced off against FC Københaven in the last 8. Manchester United who had already won the tournament in 2017 were aiming for the second Europa League title. They had already qualified for Champions League football next season as they finished 3rd but the hunt for their first silverware under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on.
They had a tough task though as FC Københaven keeper Karl Johan Johnsson kept his side till they very end and took the match into Extra time as he made 13 saves. The Red Devils were denied an offside goal by VAR, were denied a penalty and hit the woodwork and registered 14 shots on Target. The decisive moment came from the spot when Bruno Fernandes converted from 12 yards in the 95th minute to break the deadlock. United held on to that Result and went on to win and go though where they will either face Sevilla or fellow English Side Wolves.
After narrowly missing out their first league title since 2009-10 by a point, Inter Milan were keen on progressing through. They faced off against Bayer Leverkusen who had finished 5th in the Bundesliga.
Inter Milan started the game well and went 2-0 up inside 21 minutes with goals from Nicolo Barella(15th minute) and Romelu Lukaku (21st Minute). Rumoured to join Chelsea, Kai Havertz pulled one back in the 25th minute to set up an interesting match but Leverkusen failed to produce anything more than that and lost 2-1.
That Result meant this was the first Semi Final appearance in European Competitions for Inter Milan since 2009-10 when the I Nerazzurri went on to win the UEFA Champions League and complete an historic treble. They are considered one of the favourites to win the Europa League this season.
