BMC to scale up testing to 14,000 test a day

 

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to scale up daily testing to atleast 14,000 a day after the City saw a gradual increase in the number of cases in the month of September.

From Around 1000-1200 cases, Mumbai has been recording 1500-1900 cases daily now in the past few days. BMC officals say that it can be because of the increase in testing since the end of Ganesh Festival.

On Sunday BMC records state that around 11,831 tests took place in Mumbai which is the highest in a single for the city. According to reports the Civic body has already tested around 48,892 patients in the first 5 days of September and found around 8,675 positive cases.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said that around 85% tests will be RT-PCR and 15% will be Rapid Antigen testing. He said in a statement that "We have decided to go for aggressive testing. We will rely more on RT-PCR for it's accuracy than Antigen tests."

Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has said that Mumbai Hospitals will be able to handle a loads of cases even if the daily cases cross 2,000.
