The Covid-19 positivity rate has been on the rise in Mumbai this month with an addition of around 2,000 cases daily. The Senior BMC officals think that the reopening of economic activities and movement of people across the state might be a reason.
The month wise Covid positivity rate has been on a rise this month. After a optimal decline last month with the positivity rate at 14%, this month the positivity rate has increased to 17%.
The monthly growth rate also increased this month as the rate reached 37.7% this month from August's 27.5%. So far from September 1 to September 29, Mumbai has added around 56,286 cases around 25,000 more cases than the month of August.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said that even when in June-July the growth rate was low, the number of new cases in a day hardly went down to 1,000 cases. Now we are reporting more than 2,000 cases every day. He would also say that this trend will take time to come under control.
Mumbai has so far seen 2,02,488 cases with 1,67,202 recoveries and 8,380 deaths. The active number of cases is 26,001 with the recovery rate at 82% according to data provided by BMC.
