No Dandiya and Garba to be held this year

The state government on Tuesday has advised the cancellation of Garba,Dandiya and cultural programmes in the view of rise of COVID-19 pandemic this year.

This year Navratri (9 Nights) starts on October 17 with Dusshera falling on October 25. The state government department has said that the festivals are needed to be in a "simple manner". The cultural communities have been advised to set up and host health related events and camps and to promote the government scheme of 'Majhe Kutumb,Majhi Jajbabdari (My Family My Responsibility).

The organiser of Kora Kendra Dandiya Ganesh Naidu on the ban of Garba and Dandiya events said that "We are ready to follow guidelines, but it would have been better had the government taken us into confidence. Just like IPL, we would have proposed broadcast of performances from the ground. At least it would have helped artistes. But the current guidelines are not clear on that aspect."

As for Navratri and Durga Puja, the government has suggested worship of metal based idols instead of traditional ones made of Plaster of Paris or Clay. The height of the idols has capped to 4 feet for Mandals and 2 feet for home worship.

No procession during the arrival and visarjan of idol is also restricted. If a mandal wants to host a camp then they will have to ask for permission from the local administration or municipal corporation.
