The Maharashtra Government on Tuesday said to the the Bombay High Court that opening of Worship Places even with restrictions is not a good option at such a critical stage in the state.
After seeing around 1000-1200 cases every day In August, the daily spike of cases has increased in Mumbai in the month of September with around 1600-1900 cases daily in the first week of this Month.
A PIL by the Association of Aiding Justice was filed through Advocate Dipesh Siroya was heard by a Division Bench of Justice A A Sayed and Justice S P Tavade on effective steps the government should take to start the opening of Worship Places in the city in the time of Covid crisis.
Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni representing for the state replied through an affidavit through Disaster Management Department.
He said in the affidavit that the Ganesh Festival was really an 'eye opener' for everyone. The state has issued Guidelines and had hoped for a little corporation from the citizens as it is a duty and Responsibility of every citizen to take preventive measures against Coronavirus.
The State Government mentioned that Citizens had gathered in large numbers in many places in Mumbai and the markets were over crowded to buy essentials stuffs and decorations.
In the last para he added "Allowing opening of places of worship with restrictions is not a practically fesible option at this stage".
