The Weather Office has predicted that Cyclone Nivar will hit the surface tomorrow at 4pm and it's prime target is Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Cyclone is likely to arrive with winds at a speed of 120km per hour.
There were heavy overnight rains in several coastal regions districts of Tamil Nadu including Captial Chennai and Puducherry. Cyclone Nivar is likely to intensify in the next 12 hours and is currently away around 450 km south east of Chennai.
Around 6 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) is stationed at Cuddalore district and two at Chennai. While speaking to NDTV Cuddalore Collector Chandra Shekhar said "We will comply with Covid Norms. We have also moved around 400 Large Boats and 1500 catamarans to safe locations. Around 500 people from low lying areas have already been shifted to relief centres."
Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has urged the people to stay at home and only travel with personal transport in emergency. The state disaster management has asked people to stock up foods,water and batteries as chances of a power cut are high.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to the CM of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and has assured full support to the states. He his recent tweet he said "Assured all possible support from the Centre.I pray for the safety and well-being of those living in the affected areas."
This will be a 3rd major cyclone to hit India in 2020 with Cyclone Amphan hitting West Bengal on 16th May,2020 and Cyclone Nisarga hitting the City of Mumbai between June 1-June 4.
