After defeating Delhi Capitals in the 2020 Dream11 IPL final, Mumbai Indians become the second team after Chennai Super Kings(2010,2011) to successfully defend their title as they won the final by 5 Wickets and claimed their 5th IPL crown.
Mumbai were the most consistent team in the tournament these season and were heavy favourites to retain their crown against a Delhi side who made it to their first final in 13 years. Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first and put some runs on the scoreboard.
However their plan failed miserably as they lost opener Marcus Stoinis on the very first ball of the final after he edged his shot behind straight into the hands of MI keeper De Kock. Things got worse when DC lost Rahane and man in form Shikhar Dhawan quickly at the score of 22/3 in just 4 overs.
All pressure was felt on the young shoulders of Rishabh Pant and Skipper Shreyas Iyer. The duo kept their claim and kept the scoreboard tiking. They added a 96 run much needed partnership of 72 balls. After Pant's dismissal at 118/4, no one gave the support Iyer needed. He somehow managed to stay unbeaten scoring 65 as Delhi managed 156/7 in 20 overs which at once looked a impossible task.
But they say, experience matters and it certainly did. Mumbai playing in their 6th final know all about what type of pressure is in a final. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock added 45 runs in the first 4 overs to make it impossible for Delhi to come back.
A fine innings of 68 from Sharma made the task really easy for Mumbai as they went on to win the game by 5 wickets with 8 balls still left. Rohit Sharma become the most decorated player in IPL history with this being his 6th IPL Crown(5 with Mumbai and 1 with Deccan Chargers).
