The Finch-Smith Show Blows India Away In the First ODI

Australia Defeated India by 66 runs in a high scoring match in the first One Day International of the 3 match Series to take a 1-0 lead. Australian Captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat. There were limited spectators allowed for this match. This was India's first International Series since March,2020 just before the pandemic.

A breathtaking 156 run opening stand between David Warner and Aaron Finch laid out the foundation for a big score. It was a day when the Indian bowling and Fielding was not up to the mark. Warner and Finch took full use of that opportunity.

Warner was dismissed after being edged out behind by Mohammed Shami. He scored 69 runs of 76 balls. Steve Smith then arrived to the pitch. Another huge 108 run Partnership followed between Smith and Finch. Finch played a stunning innings of 114 runs of 124 balls which included 9 fours and 2 sixes.

However his hundred was overshadowed by Smith's hundred as he scored 105 runs of just 66 balls with 11 fours and 4 sixes to put Australia in a commanding position in this matchup. A small Cameo of 45 runs by Glenn Maxwell of just 19 balls contributed to Australia's huge score of 374/6 in 50 overs.

To think of chasing such a huge target, India needed a fast start. After scoring 32 runs in the first 2 overs it looked like India might overcome his huge score. But it wasn't going to happen. With wickets in quick succession India were reduced to 101/4 in just 14 overs.

Despite this, the Indian Batsmens didn't give up. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya added a 128 parternship for the 5th wicket to give some hopes for the fans. Shortly after Dhawan Dismissal the game was gone beyond India's reach. Dhawan played a good knock of 74 runs in 86 balls.

Hardik Pandya missed out his century by 10 runs as he was caught out at the score of 90 off 76 balls which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. India managed to avoid getting all out and played out all their overs finishing at a score of 308/8 in their 50 overs.
