With no more International Break till March 2021, club football returned in full swing. Saturday saw Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Beat Pep Guardiola's Manchester City 2-0 to go top of the table for atleast 24 hours with Liverpool set to host Leicester City on Sunday.
Mourinho got the better of his rival Guardiola again as Spurs won back to back games against City at home 2-0(after winning by the same score in February 2020). With Pep Signing a new contract extension till 2023, his side needed to start firing in the league as they had failed to score goals this season.
Before the matchup it was already predicted that City will have most of the ball, while Spurs will take their chances on counter attack. That's exactly what happened in a completely one sided first half as City had 10 attempt to Spurs 1 attempt but it was Spurs who struck first inside 5 minutes through Son Heung Min. This was the third time in 18 months that a VAR call has gone against City in this matchup(4-3 Champions League Classic in April 19 and 2-2 draw in August 19),after Laporte's strike was disallowed for a handball in the buildup by Jesus.
Same story continued in the second half as Spurs defended deep inside their box with City creating Chances but not taking them. The game was put to bed when Spurs Substitute Giovanni Lo Celso scored within 35 seconds after coming on to make it 2-0 in the 65th minute. Tottenham fans may be wondering this might be their year.
Whereas in La Liga Atletico Madrid broke a 20 game winless run against FC Barcelona in the La Liga after a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Yannick Carrasco in the injury time of the first half. This result meant Barcelona sit on 10th with just 11 points in their opening 8 games.
