BMC Commissioner Writes To Maharashtra Government For Reimposition Of Night Curfew

With the operating of night clubs till late night and some violation of Covid-19 guidelines by people, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chal has written to the Maharashtra Government to reimpose night curfew in the city.

This Move from Chahal comes after BMC along with the Police raided some night clubs which were opened and were fully operating till late night and at full capacity violating the COVID-19 Guidelines and the social distancing norms.

However the state government has asked the BMC to wait till Christmas (25th December) and to review the situation before taking any steps.

Chahal said to the mediapersons "The Government does not want to create panic among the people by imposing a night curfew. It will wait and watch till December 25 and then take a decision. If the people and the establishments continue to violate the social distancing norms and other Covid-19 guidelines then the government will have to impose a night curfew."

He has proposed that the night curfew should be imposed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.  In a joint action by the BMC and the Mumbai Police, a club in Lower Parel was raided late at night in which around 400 people were sitted in a confined are without masks. The club and its management has now been booked by the Police.

With a slight surge in cases after Diwali, there has not been a significant increase which is a good sign in Mumbai. At current Mumbai is recording 600-1000 cases a day and it's positivity rate keeps on decreasing day by day. So far Mumbai has seen around 2.88 lakh cases out of which 11,886 are active cases with around 11,000 fatalities.
