On Wednesday,the Maharashtra Cabinet accepted and allowed the introduction of 2 draft bills named under the "Shakti Act" to prevent incidents of violence and atrocities against women and children in Maharashtra.
The bills which are scheduled to be introduced in the Assembly Session on Monday,14th December is already approved by the State's CM Uddhav Thackeray.
Speaking about this bill, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said "Today the Cabinet discussed the Shakti Act and cleared the draft bill to amend sections of Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,2012. The two draft bills will be tabled in the State Legislature during the winter session next week. Once the State Legislature approves the two drafts, we will send it to the Centre for Presidental assent."
He later added "This draft talks about Death Punishment for offenders of Heinous Crime against Women and Children."
Women and Children development Minister,Yashomati Thakur said "It's a historic decision. This law will help us protect women and children in our State."
The Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature will take place in Nagpur instead of Mumbai this year due to the concern of COVID-19.
