MDH Owner Mahashay Dharampal Passes Away At The Age Of 97

 

He would often be seen wearing his traditional Red Turban with a pearl necklace

On 3rd December,2020 India lost one of its most successful entrepreneur and globally recognized figure Mahashay Dharampal Gulati also known to many as "MDH vale Chacha" owner of the MDH at the age of 97.

He had featured in many TV commericals. The combo of his Cameo Appearance and the Jingle of the advertisement made MDH the most recognized brand in India.

Born on 23rd March,1923 in Sialkot now in Pakistan, he dropped out of school in class five. With the help of his father he had set up a small business of mirror,soaps and carpentry in 1937. He even started trading in rice but it didn't last well and soon he joined his family's business of making spices under the name of Mahashian Di Hatti.

He arrived in India with Rs.1500 after the partition of 1947 and reached Delhi. He did odd jobs to earn money and with that he started raising the banner of MDH after establishing a small shop named after his family business.

For his lifetime work, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan(India's 3rd highest civilian award) by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2019. MDH sells over 62 products and holds 80% market share in North India. In India & Dubai there are total 18 factories of MDH.
