Arsenal and Everton require Extra Time to win as FA Cup Round 3 kicks off

 

It's that time of the year again. The Football Association (FA) Cup has kicked off again. Though there are Round 1 and Round 2 fixtures consisted by lower league teams, for the fans and media the FA Cup Actually kicks off in Round 3 when the Big Boys join the frame and the chance of a major upset starts.

The Third Round kicked off on Friday when Premier League Champions Liverpool visited Aston Villa at the Villa Park. The previous meeting of this two at the Villa Park ended in a historic win not only for Villa but in terms of Premier League history as well, as the Villians thrashed the Reds 7-2. However Villa had to field a team of youngsters in the match as most of their playing 11 were absent due to COVID-19.

Liverpool were thrashed 5-0 by Villa in a Carabao Cup match when Liverpool fielded a team of youngsters due to them being in the Club World Cup Competition (due to them winning the UEFA Champions League). It was a time for revenge for Liverpool.

They "unshockingly" won 4-1 thanks to a Brace from Sadio Mane and goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Mohammed Salah. The talking point however was somehow Liverpool manager to concede a goal through Villa youngster Louie Barry who made it 1-1 in the 41st minute. He would certainly never forget that moment.

Then the action continued on Saturday as Everton needed extra time to avoid an upset as they beated Championship side Rotherham 2-1 with a goal in the 93rd minute from Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The second fixture in which two Premier League sides faced off was at Emirates where Defending Champions Arsenal faced off against out of form Newcastle United. The game needed extra time as the score was 0-0 even after 90 Minutes.

The breakthrough goal came in the second half of extra time when Substitute Alexandre Lacazette played a clever one-two with Emile Smith Rowe before the latter placed a stunning effort in the bottom left corner in the 109th minute.

The game was wrapped by Arsenal Captain Pierre Emrick Aubameyang in the 117th minute when he slotted the ball home from a close range by a well placed pass by Kieran Tierney.The FA CUP action will continue on Sunday as well.
