Major Power Outage causes Blackout in Pakistan

The Country of Pakistan was pulled into a darkness last night on Saturday when a major power outage caused blackout before midnight in major cities including Lahore,Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The outage has said to have taken place at 11:41 pm,just merely 20 minutes before midnight.Hamza Shafqaat, Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad tweeted that the lines of the National Transmission Despatch has tripped resulting in the power cut.

Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan said that there was a heavy drop in the frequency meter in the distribution system causing the blackout. He said " The Frequency suddenly dropped from 50 to 0 causing the blackout. We are trying to ascertain what caused the drop in frequency."

Initial reports suggested that there was a fault in the Guddu power plant in the Sindh Province at 11:41 pm which caused the problem. The Fault tripped the high transmission lines and this resulted in the system frequency to drop from 50 to 0 in less than a second, causing power plants to shut down.

The power then started to return in the form of grid breakdown several hours later.
