Gerry Marsden, the lead singer of 60s popular band Gerry and the Pacemakers passed away on Sunday at the age of 78. He was famously known for the Anthem of Liverpool Football Club,"You'll Never Walk Alone".
His friend and radio broadcaster Pete Price posted on Twitter "It's with very heavy heart after speaking to the family that I have to tell you the legendary Gerry Marsden MBE after a short illness which was an infection in his heart has sadly passed away."
He found the band Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1959 and enjoyed great success that also included contemporaries such as the popular group The Beatles.
The song performed by him "You'll Never Walk Alone" is still played At Anfield during Home Games. Scottish Club Celtic FC and German Outfit Borussia Dortmund have also been using these theme.
