Remembering one of the World's Most Revered & Brilliant Personality - Swami Vivekananda on His 158th Birthday!

We at the Su-Niti News pay our utmost reverence and bow down to the one of the Greatest & Brilliant human being - Swami Vivekananda (Narendranath Dutta) on his 158th Birth Anniversary (12 January 1863).

He was a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansha (Gadadhar Chatterjee).

On 4 July 1902 (the day of Swamiji's death), Vivekananda awoke early, went to the monastery at Belur Math and meditated for three hours. He taught Shukla-Yajur-Veda, Sanskrit grammar and the philosophy of yoga to pupils, later discussing with colleagues a planned Vedic college in the Ramakrishna Math. At 7:00 pm Vivekananda went to his room, asking not to be disturbed; he died at 9:20 p.m. while meditating.

According to his disciples, Swamiji attained mahasamādhi; the rupture of a blood vessel in his brain was reported as a possible cause of death. His disciples believed that the rupture was due to his brahmarandhra (an opening in the crown of his head) being pierced when he attained mahasamādhi. Vivekananda fulfilled his prophecy that he would not live forty years. He was cremated on a sandalwood funeral pyre on the bank of the Ganga in Belur, opposite where Sri Ramakrishna was cremated sixteen years earlier.

The World knows him and thus doesn't require any introduction!

HIS LIFE & CONTRIBUTIONS:

Since 1985, his birth anniversary is observed every year as the National Youth Day. Several youngsters have been inspired by his philosophy and the speech he gave in the Parliament of Religions in America in September of 1893.

"I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true," Swami Vivekananda had said in his speech at the Parliament of Religions.

The speech gained the spotlight as Hinduism and its philosophy was introduced to the western world for the first time in Chicago.

He became India's spiritual ambassador in America and tried to teach Vedanta philosophies in the west through rational and humanistic approach. Vivekananda's teaching included seeing god in all and promoted peace and unity amongst all.

Many political leaders paid their tributes to the great personality. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Swami Vivekananda while addressing the valedictory programme of the National Youth Parliament Festival. "Inspired by the great ideals of Swami Vivekananda and his vision for youth empowerment, the National Youth Parliament Festival gives a platform to India’s youth to showcase their skills. It also furthers the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ among youngsters," the prime minister had said.
