After the events that followed on the Parakram Diwas during an event that took place in honouring the legacy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has attacked the Bhartiya Janta Party today accusing them of insulting all cultural icons of the state.
As soon as Mamata Banerjee went up to the stage for her speech, she was greeted by a thunderous chants of the holy slogan "Jai Shree Ram". After that she got upset and did not continue her speech.
With the Bengal Elections coming up soon, the centre and state government had already clashed before. The state government wanted Netaji Bose's birthday as a "Desh Nayak Diwas" but were denied and were given the "Parakram Diwas".
In her attack today she said "I went to there programme and some aggressive, fanatic traitors dared to tease me in front of the PM(Narendra Modi). They don't know me. If you point a gun at me I will show you the armoury. But I don't believe in Politics by Gun."
She added "You have insulted Netaji. You have named the birth place of Tagore wrong. You have destroyed Vidyasagar's statue. You garlanded a wrong statue thinking it was Birsa Munda. This is not political programme. Government programme should have some dignity. It is not fair to insult someone you have invited."
Some Political leaders have now pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have taken some action to stop that from happening but decided not to do so signalling "the behavior of BJP supporters."
