With the score at 263/3 at the end of Day 1 in 89.3 overs, England Skipper Joe Root walked out of the tunnel again to continue his innings along with Ben Stokes who came out at number 5 to build on the foundation laid out by the English Batsmens on Day 1.
With Root supporting from the other end,Ben Stokes decided to play his natural way of aggressive Cricket. He kept on firing shots from one end while Root was more than happy to play the second fiddle in that partnership.
Stokes and Root added a partnership of 124 runs in which Stokes scored 82 runs(10 fours and 3 sixes) off 118 balls. He tried to continue the counter attacking style of play and played a slog sweep, he got the connection but the ball got height rather than the distance and after a little fumble found the hands of Cheteshwar Pujara. The score was 387/4 after his departure.
The damage was already done though.Joe Root would Complete a magnificent double century. He lead his side and laid out an example for the further generation as he led the attack from the front.
By the time Joe Root was departed, the day was beyond reach of India. Root lost his wicket through an LBW by Shabaaz Nadeem. He Departed scoring 218 runs off 377 balls with 19 fours and 3 sixes.
The run rate of England fell down after the loss of Joe Root. It was hard for new batsmen to adapt to the pitch. A 48 run stand between Jos Buttler and Dom Bess put England in control once again before Ishant Sharma strucked twice in two balls to get the better of Buttler and Jofra Archer.
Resistance from Dom Bess and James Leach took England pass the 550 mark and the day ended with England batting all day again finishing with the score of 555/8 after 180 overs. An Overnight Declaration came be followed but it's all up to England how they want things to end. At the moment they are in Cruise control of this match.
