No plan for lockdown in Mumbai as of now says BMC

 

The recent spike of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra have raised fears among the minds of citizens. With two districts of Maharashtra, Amravati and Yavatmal been put under lockdown, the Financial Captial of India is now under the threat of same action.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already sealed over 1,300 buildings and resident colonies to control the widespread. In the meantime a top official from the Civic body has said that there are no plans as of yet to put Mumbai under lockdown again.

The restarting of Mumbai Locals has been one of the major reasons of the increase in cases. Many travellers have been seen travelling in the locals without masks and no attempt of Social Distancing or other COVID-19 safety guidelines are been followed.

The official has said that the body is currently focused on two things. 1) Increased testing and treatment 2) strict implications of face masks in public places.

Yesterday Mumbai recorded 897 cases, a major increase since the start of the month. Doctors have warned that the fatality rate may increase in the upcoming days due to this surge.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said "Lockdown is not an option in Mumbai. But we are preparing for the worst. I have instructed all jumbo facilities to inspect ventilators, para-monitors, housekeeping ,medicines,supplies, oxygen, fire equipment and security so that when patients increase they are prepared to start admitting at once."
