Weekend Football Roundup; United drop points again as Real Madrid and PSG loss

With the Winter Transfer Window coming to a close, teams have been in a hurry in the last 2-3 days to get some reinforcement for the future. It has proved to a quite a silent Winter Transfer Window this year, though one can say COVID-19 has played a big role in this aspect.

Over the weekend in Europe there were certain results which caught the eyes of fans around the world. Real Madrid lost at home to Levante, whereas PSG were stunned 3-2 by relegation facing Lorient and Manchester United dropping points again in a "Big Six fixture".

Starting off in England, Manchester United were stunned by bottom club Sheffield United. That result meant United had failed to go on top of the table ahead of Manchester City. On Saturday they travelled to London to take on resurgent Arsenal.

Prior to their kickoff, Manchester City had won 1-0 against Sheffield United. With that they had opened a 4 point gap at top and United had a chance to cut that back to 1. However this season United's performance against the traditional 'Big Six' have been horrible. They had lost 6-1 to Tottenham and 1-0 to Arsenal and had drawn the other 3 games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool by 0-0. Once again they failed to beat a big six team as they played out a 4th 0-0 draw in 6 games against the Big Six. Their only goal was the Penalty in the second minute in that 6-1 humbling by Spurs in October. If United were to give a real challenge and win the league then they will simply have to win this games.

Moving on to Spain as Real Madrid "shockingly" lost 2-1 at Home to Levante. The Los Blancos are having a really tough season. They were down to 10 men after VAR decided to change it decision and hand Defender Eder Militao a straight Red Card for a challenge in the 9th minute for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Despite that Real took the lead in the 13th minute through Marco Asensio. Luis Morales equalised for Levante in the 32nd minute. In the second half Levante forward Roger had a chance to give his side the lead from the penalty spot but was denied by Thibaut Courtois. Roger However made amends for his miss as he turned and hitted a volley which Courtois was unable to keep it out in the 78th minute. With Barcelona's win on Sunday, Madrid now slip down to third on Goal Difference behind FC Barcelona on 40 points still 10 behind Leaders and Rivals Atletico Madrid who are on 50 points and have a game in hand. It wouldn't be surpise if Atletico go on to become Champions of Spain this season.

The other fixture which grabbed headlines was PSG's loss to Lorient. Both came into this game with contrasting positions. Despite taking the lead in the first half, 2 penalty on either side of the half from Neymar had given PSG a 2-1 lead. But 2 late goals from Lorient in the 80th minute from Yoane Wissa(80th minute) and Terem Moffi(90+2) made it 3-2 for the host and claim a historic win which lifted them to 18th whereas slumped PSG to third, 3 behind Leaders Lille.
