In a tragic incident in Mumbai, a fire broke out at Sunrise Hospital in Bhandup West just after the midnight on Friday in which 10 people lost their lives, while over 70 people were evacuated.
According to the Officials, two patients who were suffering from COVID-19 were found dead, whereas the other eight patients suffered asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation and burn injuries.
Sunrise Hospital CEO Dr Hafeez Raheem has also mentioned that some patients were missing following the incident and probe is underway to find and identity them.
Following this incident around 30 patients were shifted to a COVID-19 centre in Mulund where four people are in very serious condition with two patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two on oxygen support. The Non Covid patients were shifted to Fortis Hospital.
The incident broke out at the Dreams Mall, a three storey building at around 12:30 am.Sunrise Hospital is located on the third floor. The Paramedics have labelled this fire as a 'level four' fire(Serious Emergency Call).
Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited the place of incident and was left surprised when she found out that the hospital was being operated inside the mall.
Speaking to the ANI she said "I have seen a hospital at a mall for the first time.This is a very serious situation. Seven patients were on ventilators.70 have been taken to other hospital.There will be an investigation to confirm the cause." She has also added that action will be taken if any irregularities are found in allowing the facilitate to operate there.
The Hospital on there part have said that they have been operating with all due license.
Meanwhile Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has sought for forgiveness from the families of those who have died after the fire broke out and has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each.
