86 Mumbai Cops transferred by New Commissioner Hemant Nagrale

In the latest build up regarding the Mumbai Police, around 86 Mumbai Police Cops including 65 from the Crime Branch were transferred on Tuesday. This action comes mere days after Hemant Nagrale took charge as Mumbai Police Commissioner replacing Param Bir Singh.

This development is also said to have taken place after the Opposition party in Maharashtra concerned the state government over a report made in 2020 by then Commissioner of state Rashmi Shukla, citing a "money for transfer" scam in the state police department.

The report had alleged mentioned some big names including politicians, middlemen and police officers who had wished transfers and posting for their liking.

Though the state government had refused to comment on the report, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had approached the centre seeking a CBI Investigation in the matter.

Out of the 65 Crime Branch officers who have been transferred, assistant police inspectors Prakash Howal and Riyazuddin Qazi were recently questioned by the NIA (National Investigation Agency) regarding their alleged association with now suspended cop Sachin Vaze.

According to reports Qazi has been transferred to local arm units while Howal is transferred to the Malabar Hill Police Station.
