COVID-19 in Mumbai: No Holi Celebration this year, 432 Buildings Sealed

Yesterday, Mumbai recorded it's highest single day spike of COVID-19 cases with 5,185 new cases. These took the total active caseload to 30,760. With the increasing number of cases, the BMC has now sealed over 432 buildings in Mumbai,as Andheri West has emerged as a major hotspot.

According to the records of BMC, the KW ward which houses Andheri West has the maximum number of cases. As of March 24, this ward has more than 2,600 active cases and around 121 buildings have been sealed.

As of now, unlike other districts in Maharashtra, there is no lockdown or specific restrictions in Mumbai. The Civic body has started random antigen testing on crowded places such as markets and shopping malls which can be a reason for the number of cases increasing.

The BMC has also stated that there won't be any public or private celebration of Holi this year in Mumbai. As far as lockdown in concerned in Mumbai, the BMC and the state government both have ruled out the necessity of it being imposed as of yet.
