Joan Laporta elected as the new president of FC Barcelona

On Sunday Joan Laporta won the presidential race of FC Barcelona seeing off competition from Victor Font and Antoni Freixa. The 58 year old is now in his second term as the president of the club. His first term lasted 7 years between 2003-2010.

Laporta was the early favourite to win the competition and the votes on Sunday, proved the prediction correct. According to reports from Catalonia, he won the race with 58.3% votes over Font with 31.3% and Freixa with 9.3%.

Barcelona faithful can now take a sigh of relief, as the ongoing drama off the pitch is sorted out. Every since former president Josep Maria Bartomeu stepped down from his post, the club had been facing a lot of criticism.

During his first term as president, Barcelona enjoyed a great era of success including the treble in the 2008-09 season under Pep Guardiola. The fans would be hoping for a similar type of influence in his second term.

In an interview he said that he is ready to go again and has told that he would be travelling with the squad with manager Ronald Koeman to Paris on Tuesday as they seek for another "Remontada" with them being 4-1 down to Paris Saint Germain after the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
