PM Modi warns state CMs of "emerging second peak" of COVID-19

 

With the constant surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi holded a virtual meeting with Chief Minister of different states to discuss the situation. 

In the meeting he highlighted that it was critical to control,what he called "emerging second peak" of COVID-19 with decisive measures including rapid testing and vaccination.

He added that nearly 70 districts in the country have recorded an increase in the positivity rate by over 150 per cent. He also warned that if the government is failed in stopping this peak, then a situation of another nationwide lockdown might occur.

"If we don't stop this right now, then there could be a situation of a nationwide outbreak. We have to immediately stop the emerging second peak and take big and decisive steps" said PM Modi.

He also reminded that we should not getting overconfident from the success that the country has had against the fight with COVID-19 over the past year. "Our success should not be the reason for carelessness."

In the video conference, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was seen missing along with UP CM Yogi Adityanath who are both preparing for the upcoming elections for their respective parties. Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel was also absent from this meeting.
