Remembering Sahir Ludhianvi Sahab on his 100th Birth Anniversary

We at the Su-Niti News pay our heartfelt tribute to one of the boundless poet & lyricist - Sahir Ludhianvi Sahab, on his 100th Birthday (8th March 1921).

Born as Abdul Hayee, he chose to be known by his pen - Sahir Ludhianvi. Ace poet Sahir Ludhianvi’s lyrics are synonymously linked to his Hindi film songs. He was inariguably one of the finest lyricists associated with Indian cinema during its 'Golden Age'.

Personal, moving, Sahir Sahab’s lyrics were also provocative and intense. From heartwrenching romantic numbers to patriotic ones. With his untimely demise in 1980, Sahir left an enormous hole in the world of arts. From penning heartwrenching romantic numbers for Hindi movies to writing socio-political & patriotic poetry, the legendary artiste experimented ceaselessly.

Sahir Sahab won a Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for Taj Mahal (1963). He won a second Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for his work on Kabhi Kabhi (1976). He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1971. On 8 March 2013, the ninety-second anniversary of Sahir's birth, a commemorative stamp was issued in his honour.
