Institutional Isolation now Mandatory for COVID patients over 50 Years of Age In Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has changed its guidelines again on the topic of Isolation due to COVID-19.

It has now made Institutional Isolation mandatory for all patients of COVID-19 above 50 years of age irrespective of them being symptomatic or asymptomatic.

Patients may choose either government or private hospitals to undergo Institutional Isolation said the Civic body in a statement. In the first 15 days of August, Mumbai has seen 588 deaths. Around 244 died in Private Hospital out of which 94% patients were above the age of 50.

BMC Executive Health Officer Dr Mangala Gomare released the new isolation guidelines on Wednesday. According to the new guidelines, Home Isolation will only be allowed to patients for mild and asymptomatic below 50 years of age. Those patients above 50 will have to stay in Institutional Isolation, irrespective of their symptoms.
