After a Sunday full of rumours and speculations, it is now confirmed that a group of 12 European Clubs have announced the foundation of "European Super League", a new midweek competition.

The plans of a Super League was originally rejected by in 2019. However out of nowhere yesterday, reports of 12 Clubs joining this new league has left the fans and experts in shock worldwide.

The Group of 12 consists of the "Big Six" of England (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs), the trio of Italy (AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus) and the trio of Spain (Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid). The league is expected to have more teams in the future. This clubs are said to be the Founding Clubs.

Journalist Rob Harris posted the statement on this Twitter account which read "Going forward, the Founding Clubs look forward to hold discussions with UEFA and FIFA to work together in partnership to deliver the best outcomes for the new League and for football as a whole."

According to the statement, three more founding clubs are yet to be confirmed for the 20 team league in which five spots will be given via qualification each year.

This controversial new league will involve 20 teams, playing in two leagues (10 in One group) before two leg knockout format to determine the two finalists.

The competition is said to kick off in August. The two three teams from each group will automatically qualify for the knockout stages. Teams finishing fourth and fifth will then compete in a two legged format for the remaining quarter final.

Reacting to this the UEFA and FIFA have both released statement and have said to be working with the other football authorities across Europe from preventing this. If the clubs decide to participate, they will be banned from future UCL and UEL Campaigns and players will also be prevented from playing International Tournament.

The UEFA have said to have a meeting today with other officials.

Yesterday Sky Sports Pundit, Commentator and Manchester United legend Gary Neville slammed the Big Six for agreeing to join the ESL and accused them of disowning your own club stuff.

"Enough is Enough, there isn't a football fan in this country that won't be seething and shouldn't be seething listening to this conversations and these announcements. Manchester United fans, you know, Roy(Keane) loves United, I Love United, Michael (Micah Richards) loves Manchester City, you know this is disowning your own club stuff. This is disowning your own club" said Neville.

"I mean, seriously? How could you even think to come and watch a Super League here where you have left your 14 clubs in the Premier League behind to play against each other? Your Championship Clubs dead. Your EFL One and Two Clubs are dead. Your National League, your pyramid system you fought for 150 years has gone because of Six Clubs" added Neville and insisted of a points deduction, massive fines, strip them of championships as a punishment.

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is said to be mastermind behind this along with American owners of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.
